Most teas—even those that are certified as fair trade—come from large plantations where workers have little say and are trapped in a system of dependency. Equal Exchange is building a different tea model, one that gives small-scale farmers greater access to the market, affording them more economic power, better lives, and healthier communities.

Equal Exchange is proud to work with a group called SEKEM, a leader in sustainable agriculture and community development for more than 40 years. SEKEM is located to the northeast of Cairo, Egypt and has achieved incredible economic and community prosperity despite the inhospitable desert environment that surrounds them.
