- What is Latitudes Fair Trade and how did it start?
Latitudes Fair Trade Store specializes in hand-made, artisanal goods from all around the world. Read more about our philosophies here.
- Where are your stores located, and what are the hours?
Latitudes Fair Trade is comprised of three independently owned and operated locations: Warrenton, Fredericksburg, and Staunton. Visit each store’s page to view locations and current hours.
- How can I contact or get involved with Latitudes?
For general questions, fill out our contact form here. To reach a specific store, visit its page for phone and email contact info.
- Are you affiliated with Ten Thousand Villages? Are you a chain?
We are an alliance store with Ten Thousand Villages and share the same mission—everything we carry is made by artisans who are paid a living wage. Ten Thousand Villages is a chain of fair trade stores across the U.S. and Canada, and while we do carry some of their products, they are just one of many fair trade groups we partner with. Latitudes is not a chain; we are three independently owned and operated stores.
- What is Fair Trade, and who makes your products?
Fair Trade is a way of doing business that ensures fair, livable wages and safe working conditions. We work with artisans around the world. Learn more on our Fair Trade page.
- How do you choose and work with your artisan partners?
We’re proud members of the Fair Trade Federation (FTF), which connects us with verified fair trade organizations. Many of our relationships begin through the FTF or in-person artisan visits and conferences. Latitudes began when Lee, who founded our Warrenton store, took a backstrap loom weaving class in Guatemala and experienced the impact of Fair Trade firsthand.
- Are your products handmade and sustainable?
Yes! All of our items are handmade, and the majority are sustainably crafted. Handmade production uses very little energy or fuel, making our products environmentally friendly.
- Do you work with local or international artisans?
We work with international artisan groups. That said, we’re big fans of shopping local and are glad to provide something different with products that support global makers while still strengthening our local economies.
