Most teas–even those that are certified as fair trade–come from large plantations where workers have little say and are trapped in a system of dependency. The small farmers who grow Equal Exchange teas control their land and their livelihoods. Together, they're building an alternative tea model and a farmer-led future for the tea industry.
Equal Exchange is proud to support the Marginalized Organic Producers' Association (MOPA), a network of over 800 small-scale farmers, about half of whom are women, in the Uva and Central regions in Sri Lanka. These farmers grow spices and tea and are committed to organic and biodynamic agriculture.
