The capiz shells sourced for these chimes come from a fishing village in Java, where shell artisans sustainably harvest and shape the shells. All parts of the capiz are used; the meat for food, the main part of the shell for handicraft, and the shell waste for fertilizer. Only full-grown shells are picked from the kelp beds, where they grow, to provide more space and food source for the young ones to grow. 

All of Balizen's Capiz chimes are made with care in their fair trade, in-house workshop in Bali. Your purchase helps provide job stability for these artisans and supports sustainable and ethical craftsmanship.
