This chocolate bar is made from various organic ingredients: cacao from Dominican Republic and Peru; sugar from Paraguay and Costa Rica; vanilla from Madagascar, all grown by small farmer co-ops. 

When farmers organize into co-ops they gain crucial market access, run their business democratically, and decide together how to invest in their communities. Since 2004, Equal Exchange has partnered with El Quinacho co-op, in Sivia, Peru. Founded in 1970 in the Apurimac River Valley of Peru, El Quinacho is a co-operative of about 220 members. In a region scarred by a history of social and political conflict, this resilient co-operative has focused on providing viable alternatives for its members and their community.
